Is fall – not spring – the best time for growth?
The Glory of Spring, The Power of Fall
Spring often gets the glory as the season of renewal, with flowers blooming and life awakening from the cold grip of winter. But for me, fall has always been the true season of transformation. It’s a time to reflect, recalibrate, and seize new opportunities. Even now, the onset of fall brings a surge of energy that reminds me of the excitement of starting something fresh — like that feeling of walking into a classroom with a blank notebook, ready to learn and grow.
Growing up in New York, the crisp air, the vibrant colors of the leaves, and the sound of crunching footsteps beneath trees readying for winter all signaled a new beginning. There’s something about fall that whispers of possibility, of investing in ourselves, and making bold changes. It is a time to gather the harvest of the year’s efforts and prepare for what lies ahead.
Bringing Fall’s Energy to the Workplace
This same spirit can be carried into our professional lives. Imagine using this season to invest in yourself and your team. Fall is the perfect time to refocus and rejuvenate, to reconnect with your team’s purpose and prepare for the big push towards the year’s end. Now is the moment to reflect on what you’ve accomplished, decide what changes need to be made, and commit to learning and growing — just like students embarking on a new school year, equipped with fresh ideas and unsharpened pencils, ready for what’s next.
In my field of human development, we have the privilege of never ceasing to learn and evolve. I believe that today I solve problems differently, more effectively, than I did 30 years ago. And this is true for any work, when approached with a mindset of continual growth. The newest members of a team often bring insights just as valuable as those of seasoned veterans. Together, we can move from simply being smart, to becoming wise, to embracing what positive psychology calls the “sage mind.”
Embrace Transformation This Fall
This fall, why not embark on that journey of growth and transformation? Whether it’s about fine-tuning your team’s direction or reigniting your own passion, now is the time to invest in becoming not just smarter, but wiser, more connected, and more visionary.
If you’re ready to take that journey, let me know. It’s one of the things I specialize in.
Maybe its time, before the leaves fall off the trees?
